Dr. Jose De La Guerra, DMD

Dr. Jose De La Guerra (or Dr. D as he is often called) was born in Quito, Ecuador, and spent much of his childhood living throughout the United States before settling in West Palm Beach, Florida. He attended The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he earned his undergraduate degree in International Studies with a minor in Public Health. After working in several different fields, Dr. D ultimately discovered his passion for dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery. He completed additional pre-dental coursework at Florida Atlantic University before attending the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine on scholarship. During dental school, he graduated with honors in Oral Surgery and received several distinctions, including the Delaware Valley Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Excellence Award and the Adrian R. and Regina Kristeller Prize in Radiology. Following dental school, Dr. D pursued five years of advanced surgical training, beginning with a one-year internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He subsequently completed a four-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at ChristianaCare in Delaware. Throughout his training, Dr. D gained extensive experience in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including wisdom tooth removal, dental implants, IV sedation and general anesthesia, treatment of benign and malignant conditions of the mouth and jaws, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and joint replacement, corrective jaw surgery for facial and skeletal discrepancies and obstructive sleep apnea, and facial cosmetic procedures. An important component of his residency was extensive training in the management of facial trauma at Christiana Hospital, Delaware's only adult Level I trauma center, where he gained experience treating complex facial injuries and fractures.
